Hello cake friends.
As many of you know, I was in Level 1 cake decoration last year. I blogged my way through the first few weeks of last year and then life took a turn for the busy, and my blog took a back seat. To update you all, I got my certificate in the mail a month or so ago, and I am now the proud holder of a Level 1 Certificate in Cake Decoration. But that’s not all. Yesterday was my first class of Level 2 in cake decoration! Yep, I’m back again.
To start off, it was lovely being back. It was nice not being the newbies for a change. It was so good to see familiar faces again and to talk about baking and all things cake decor! There are three of us in the Level 2 course, so we have our own huge corner of the classroom.
In the same classroom as us is a large group of Level 1’s. Some of them already have their own businesses, some are starting out (like me) and others are here because they just love cake decorating!
We all went through health and safety rules and also fire safety, and while the Level 1’s were going through their course for the year, we got on with some piping. I love piping with royal icing. I need to work on my take off lines, and especially when I lay the royal icing down. I tend to rush a little, so I need to work on being gentler with it.
And then it was our turn to go through our course for the next year. Can I just say, I can’t wait! I have ideas already, too many in fact, and I’m going to have a hard time deciding which ones to choose. There’ll be room for lots of colour and creativity this year. I haven’t worked with too much sugarpaste, so I’m excited to get really wacky with it!
That’s it for this week. It was pretty chill, but there’s lots (and I mean tonnes) of hard work coming up, but I know it will all be enjoyable. See you next week!
